US Ambassador: The issue of the status of Nagorno-Karabakh remains on the agenda of the negotiations

The issue of the status of Nagorno-Karabakh remains on the agenda of negotiations under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group, US Ambassador to Armenia Lynn Tracy told reporters in Yerevan on Saturday, Sputnik-Armenia reports.

According to her, the United States is doing everything possible to bring the parties back to the negotiating table, being confident that this is the only way to resolve the issue. The diplomat recalled that Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has repeatedly stated the position of the American side.

“Of course, the thirty-year conflict and tension cannot be resolved overnight. But there are fundamental things that are important to us. We do not believe that the issue of the status of Nagorno-Karabakh has been resolved. It will remain on the agenda of the Minsk Group,” Tracy added.

Answering the question about the existence of prerequisites for negotiations, the ambassador stated that she could not speak instead of the parties themselves, but referred to the position of the Armenian government, which stated that large-scale discussions are impossible without the return of prisoners.

“As you know, the United States has made some efforts in this direction, the Russian partners have also made efforts, and some success has been achieved. We hope that we will reach the stage when all the prisoners will be returned,” Tracy said.
