Pashinyan on the need for regional cooperation and the strategic mistakes of Armenians

Overcoming hostility in the region can become an important, key component of Armenia’s foreign policy. Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this on August 24, speaking in parliament.

According to him, deepening hostility is a threat to the stability and security of the region. Armenia’s efforts aimed at unblocking regional communications and demonstrating a constructive approach on the other hand will lead to the formation of an atmosphere of peaceful and mutually beneficial cooperation. From this point of view, the key is the full implementation of the points of the trilateral statement of November 9 and January 11, he said.

“This is a regional issue, and I believe that overcoming the atmosphere of hostility in the region can become the core of our regional foreign policy and cooperation, which may also be of interest to other countries in our region. This issue may not interest them, but even in this case, it should remain on our agenda, ”Pashinyan said.

He also noted that the inconsistency of Yerevan’s position on the Karabakh settlement caused significant harm, and the Armenian side did not think what would happen if it did not achieve what it wanted.

“The rhetoric of Azerbaijan was the same everywhere and always, while the approaches of Armenia inside the country, in the external environment and at the negotiating table were different. There was no answer to the question: what are we going to do if we fail to reach an acceptable solution for us at the negotiating table? This systemic problem has had a serious impact on the situation, ”Pashinyan said. -02D-

Head of state: Armenia is objecting again, therefore, UNESCO Mission is again delayed

“So now the war is over, the conflict is resolved, there is nothing to talk about what happened,” said President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev as he received newly appointed United Nations Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Vladanka Andreeva, APA reports.

“We need to look to the future and of course, our main concern now is a restoration of destroyed territories which are in full devastation. Of course, we count on the future cooperation with the United Nations on these issues, issues related to humanitarian situation, issues related to our plans with the restoration of the liberated territories. Of course, we will need more interaction with UN institutions. As you probably know we also are in contact with UNESCO, and we have been waiting for UNESCO for almost 30 years. I don’t know whether you know it or not, a couple of years ago, last time when we invited UNESCO to come, that was of course, the time of occupation, to come and to see what has been done to our territories. Because the OSCE Minsk Group twice sent a fact-finding mission to the occupied territories. We have been asking them to send another mission, but they did not. We’ve been asking UNESCO to come and to see the damage to our historical monuments caused by Armenian aggressors and they refused. UNESCO officials were saying that UNESCO is not involved in political issues. But after the war was over, we received the signals from UNESCO that they want to come. Of course, we expressed our surprise because they were not coming for almost 30 years, when we have been asking them. They decided to come after the war. Therefore, we, of course, agreed to that and as far as I know the last information was that their mission have been already created but now Armenia is objecting again. Therefore, it’s again delayed,” noted the head of state.

“The friendship between the UN and Azerbaijan is 29 years old. Next year, we will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s membership in the UN. At the same time, we will mark the 30th anniversary of the opening of the UN Office in Baku. There are many dates to be celebrated and reviewed, and I believe that the last 18 months have seen unprecedented events. COVID-19 has become a global crisis and many countries have struggled with it. I would like to praise the efforts you and your government have put in place to take a decisive national response to COVID-19. However, you also noted that during this period we had to demonstrate a stronger commitment to multilateralism and shared responsibility. We are grateful for your efforts – first of all, to hold the Non-Aligned Movement Summit to discuss the response to COVID-19 and then to organize a special session of the UN General Assembly,” noted the Coordinator.

Taliban forces claim to have recaptured three areas in northern Afghanistan

Taliban forces say they have recaptured three areas in northern Afghanistan held by local militia groups, according to washingtonexaminer.com.

The Bano, Deh Saleh and Puli Khesar districts in neighboring Baghlan province, north of Panjshi, were seized by Taliban forces on Monday, according to a Twitter account by spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid. This weekend, opposing forces temporarily wrested the area from Taliban control.

The local militias occupying the area are the only significant and somewhat successful military action launched against the Taliban since they captured Kabul on 15 August.

Local forces in the Panjshir Valley, a mountainous region northwest of Kabul, are loyal to Ahmad Massoud, the son of the anti-Soviet and anti-Taliban mujahideen commander Ahmad Shah Massoud. They advocate the formation of an inclusive government, which would include all the ethno-political forces of Afghanistan.

According to Reuters, there has been no confirmation of hostilities between the two sides.
