BAKU – Azerbaijan’s State Maritime and Port Agency, under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, has initiated discussions with Vodohod LLC, a leading Russian cruise operator, to explore the potential for organizing cruise trips across the Caspian Sea. The talks are part of ongoing efforts to enhance maritime cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the meeting focused on the importance of high-level diplomatic visits and events in strengthening maritime ties between the two nations. The cooperation in maritime transport is expected to further expand joint partnerships in commercial and economic fields.
A key topic of discussion was the construction of three new-generation cruise liners, part of the Karelia project, which Vodohod LLC plans to put into operation between 2025 and 2026. These vessels are expected to serve ports in Makhachkala, Aktau, Turkmenbashi, Baku, and Anzali, offering new opportunities for cruise tourism in the region. The meeting also addressed ways to simplify the entry and exit of ships to Azerbaijani ports, with representatives from the Port of Baku in attendance.
