Azerbaijan plays vital role in connecting Middle Corridor between East and West, says Economy Minister

Positioning itself as a significant hub in international transport corridors, Azerbaijan played a vital role in establishing the Middle Corridor as a reliable trade route connecting East and West, Economy Minister of Azerbaijan Mikayil Jabbarov said at the Azerbaijan-Slovakia Business Forum, APA-Economics reports.

“We laid the foundation of the Middle Corridor by initiating the construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway,” the minister added.

He underlined that using the strategic geographical position of Azerbaijan, numerous special economic zones have been created that include industrial zones and the Alat Free Economic Zone: “Alat Free Economic Zone aims to attract investors who are interested in using innovative technologies for the production of export-oriented high-value goods. Located near the Baku International Sea Trade Port, the largest port on the Caspian Sea, the Economic Zone offers its residents tax benefits and the freedom to repatriate their income.’
