Azerbaijan Responds to U.S. Congressional Hearing on Human Rights Allegations


BAKU — Aykhan Hajizada, spokesperson for Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has criticized a recent hearing at the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission of the U.S. Congress, calling it a misrepresentation of the situation in Azerbaijan. The hearing, held on September 19, 2024, focused on alleged human rights violations in Azerbaijan following the fall of Nagorno-Karabakh.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the event was biased and organized by U.S. congressmen influenced by internal considerations rather than national security interests. He condemned the participation of representatives of the former separatist regime and accused the hearing of distorting facts about Azerbaijan. Hajizada also highlighted that Azerbaijan’s actions, including last year’s anti-terror measures, were in line with international law and that Azerbaijan has called for peaceful coexistence between Armenians and Azerbaijanis.



The Ministry spokesperson further criticized the involvement of individuals allegedly connected to the Armenian diaspora and emphasized Azerbaijan’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region.
