Bakhtiyar Hajiyev has been on hunger strike for 33 days

The health of Bakhtiyar Hajiyev, who is on a hunger strike for the 33rd day in the Baku pre-trial detention center-1, continues to deteriorate. Rovshan Rahimli’s lawyer said this after today’s meeting with him. “Today Hajiyev’s blood pressure was 90/60, his pulse was 69 beats per minute, his body temperature was 35.9 degrees. Bakhtiyar’s headaches and heartaches intensified. He’s shivering all the time. However, he continues his hunger strike,” Rahimli said.

According to her, today Hajiyev wanted to go on a dry hunger strike, but the lawyers managed to persuade him not to do this. Hajiyev thanked everyone who supports him and asked the public to keep his case under control, Rahimli said.

* Bakhtiyar Hajiyev was detained on December 9 on charges of hooliganism and contempt of court. On the same day, the Khatai District Court arrested him for 1 month and 20 days.

On December 15, Hajiyev went on a hunger strike demanding his release. On December 28, he ended his hunger strike after persistent calls from the public and family members. However, on January 9, he resumed his hunger strike after the appeal court refused to release him and continues to this day.

On January 21, the court extended Hajiyev’s arrest for another 1 month
