Int’l organizations informed about violence in Armenia against Azerbaijani soldier – MFA

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan (MFA) has informed international organizations about the torture against an Azerbaijani soldier taken prisoner by Armenia, Trend reports.

According to the MFA, Azerbaijani Army soldiers Agshin Babirov, born in 2004, and Huseyn Akhundov, born in 2003, went missing a few days ago on the territory of the Shahbuz district of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic bordering Armenia, were captured by Armenia.

“One of the videos published on social networks depicts physical torture and inhuman treatment against captured Huseyn Akhundov. The relevant international organizations were informed about the incident, which is another example of ethnic violence by Armenia,” said the statement.

The ministry noted this violence used by Armenia against prisoners of war is a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions of 1949, the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD), international humanitarian and other obligations.

“The relevant international organizations should investigate and give a proper assessment of this fact of violence, as well as the facts of violence by Armenia against Azerbaijani prisoners of war and civilians, and 3,890 Azerbaijanis missing during the conflict over the past 30 years,” the MFA said.

Azerbaijani Energy Minister to take part in the meeting of countries-initiators of Ring of Solidarity project in Sofia

Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan Parviz Shahbazov intends to take part in the ministerial meeting of the countries-initiators of the ‘Ring of Solidarity’ project on April 25-26 in Sofia (Bulgaria), Bulgarian sources told Turan.

The meeting is expected to sign an appropriate memorandum on this project, which is important for the countries of Southern and Central Europe.

Bulgarian Minister of Energy Rosen Hristov announced on April 12 that the event will be attended by representatives of six states, including Azerbaijan, and the project is aimed at expanding the gas infrastructure with the participation of Bulgaria, Turkey, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary and Azerbaijan.

Hristov believes that the document will open the way for additional gas from Azerbaijan through Bulgaria to Central Europe.

An informed source in SOCAR told Turan that the memorandum would not be binding on the Azerbaijani side.

It is worth reminding that the ‘Ring of Solidarity project to a large extent looks like a competitor and an alternative to the expansion of the Southern Gas Corridor, which is a priority for Azerbaijan. But it has the right to exist and can be implemented if the necessary conditions are met,’ said a representative of SOCAR, which, by the way, was the initiator of the invitation of the Turkish delegation to attend the meeting in Sofia.

It ough to be noted that on the eve of the meeting on the Ring of Solidarity, the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry in Moscow enlisted support from Gazprom for the supply of additional volumes of Russian gas to Hungary using the existing infrastructure.

At that, Bulgaria received the first batch of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the American Cheniere through the Turkish Marmara Ereglisi terminal (in January 2023, Bulgaria signed a contract with Turkey on access to the capacities of 5 Turkish terminals for 13 years in the amount of up to 1.5 billion cubic meters).

Thus, the European countries are seeking to achieve a guaranteed energy supply.

The EU does not yet accept the Ring of Solidarity project in the list of projects of common interest, and it is not clear whether this crude project has a future
