ICESCO Representatives Engage with Western Azerbaijan Community

Baku – The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) made significant inroads into Western Azerbaijan with the visit of its key officials. Ramata Almamy, Director of Human and Social Sciences Sector at ICESCO, and Dinara Guliyeva, expert of the Department of Strategy and Cooperation, arrived in the region on Tuesday, as reported by APA.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the meeting included several prominent figures such as Aynur Sofiyeva, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs, and members of the Western Azerbaijan Community. Key issues discussed revolved around the impact of deportations on the cultural heritage of Western Azerbaijanis. Malahat Ibrahimgizi, Chairperson of the Women’s Council and member of the Milli Majlis, highlighted the negative effects on tangible and intangible cultural heritage.

Sabina Khasayeva, another member of the Milli Majlis, stressed the hardships faced by women and children during expulsion, particularly impacting the art of carpet-making and national cuisine. Community spokesperson Ulviyye Zulfugar also addressed the deleterious effects of these events on Goycha ashiq art, literature, folklore, and theater art in Western Azerbaijan.
