Pakistan launches plantation campaign to increase forest area, counter pollution

Pakistan on Monday launched a tree plantation campaign in various districts in efforts to increase the forest area and counter pollution in the South Asian country, according to Xinhua.

The drive known as Plant for Pakistan is aimed at restoring the land allocated for planting forests in the country, promoting plantation, mitigating the effects of climate change and safeguarding biodiversity, according to the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination.

The Plant for Pakistan drive will continue until 2026, and its scope will be extended to other districts as well, said the ministry, adding that the plantation campaign will be supported by provincial governments, corporate sector, youth as well as common people.

The project is expected to not only help reduce pollution, but also develop the timber industry in the country, besides benefiting the owners of agricultural lands.
