KHANKENDI — President Ilham Aliyev reviewed the planned renovation work for the Khankendi State Drama Theatre on September 19. The theatre, originally constructed in 1932 and expanded in 1949, has been listed as a ‘Local Importance Immovable Historical and Cultural Monument’ by Azerbaijan’s Cabinet of Ministers since 2001.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, a November 2023 inspection by the Ministry of Culture revealed that the building had deteriorated significantly during the occupation period, rendering it unusable. The planned restoration aims to preserve the theatre’s Soviet-era architectural elements while bringing the venue back into functional use as a cultural landmark in Khankendi.
