Serbian RTS TV channel airs reportage on landmine problem in Azerbaijan’s Aghdam district

Serbia’s RTS Radio-TV channel has broadcast a reportage highlighting the landmine problem in Azerbaijan’s Aghdam district. The reportage described Aghdam as the city of the Karabakh economic region, which remains massively contaminated by land mines, noting that following the decades the landmines could still pose a threat. The author highlighted the ongoing demining process launched in Aghdam, the biggest city of the Karabakh economic region, saying that 10 thousands of mines and explosive ordinances have been neutralized since November 2020, thus meaning that the demining process still has a long way to go. ‘As we had started the mine-clearing operations we had nearly 40 sappers, with over 250 people currently working in the field, using specially trained dogs and mine-clearing vehicles,’ said employee of Azerbaijan’s Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) Khalig Zulfugarov. The reportage also mentioned the usage of UAVs in demining, noting that there are also civilians along with the military servicemen who have become victims of landmines since 2020.
