SOCAR unveils volume of oil transported through Baku-Supsa pipeline


100 million tons of oil has been transported through the Baku-Supsa or Western Route Export Pipeline from the commissioning of the pipeline to April 1 of this year, SOCAR posted on its Facebook account regading this, APA-Economics reports.

’25 years ago today, with the participation of National Leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev, the Baku-Supsa oil export pipeline was put into operation,’ – the post says.

Note that Western Route Export Pipeline takes its start from the Sangachal terminal and extends to the Supsa terminal in Georgia. This pipeline is an integral part of the oil export system created by Azerbaijan in a short time after the “Contract of the Century” was signed.

The construction of the pipeline was started after the Intergovernmental Agreement signed between Azerbaijan and Georgia in March 1996. Construction works were concluded in November 1998. Oil was loaded onto ships for the first time in Supsa on April 8, 1999. The official inaguration ceremony of the pipeline was held on April 17.

The
total length of the pipeline is 829.6 km (Azerbaijan – 456.4 km; Georgia – 373.2 km), the pipeline goes up to a height of 1190 meters in the mountains. Its shipping capacity is from 600 thousand barrels to 1 million barrels.
