Turkmen Delegation Engages in Central Asian Climate Strategy Talks at Pre-COP29 Conference in Bishkek

BISHKEK – A Turkmen delegation has participated in the regional Pre-COP29 conference in Bishkek, concentrating on climate adaptation planning and financing for Central Asia. The conference aimed to craft a unified strategy among Central Asian nations for the upcoming 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) scheduled in Baku.

According to Trend News Agency, the conference highlighted the critical need for regional cooperation in addressing climate change effects and refining collective strategies for COP29. Discussions at the event revolved around developing a coherent strategy that would enable the countries of Central Asia to present a united front at the upcoming global meeting. A significant focus was placed on identifying resources for climate financing both at national and international levels.

This collaborative effort comes as Azerbaijan gears up to host COP29 this November, following its selection during last year’s COP28 plenary session in Dubai. The upcoming conference in Baku is expected to draw approximately 70,000 to 80,000 attendees from around the world, focusing global attention on the region’s climate initiatives.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, established at the Rio Earth Summit in 1992, serves as the foundation for these annual conferences, aimed at preventing hazardous human impacts on the climate system. With 198 countries participating, the conventions facilitate critical discussions and decisions on global climate policy.
