‘We appreciate the launching of the COP Presidencies Troika,’ says Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Mottley

“I hope that the action taken on funding the fight against climate change over the last few years will continue this year,” Mia Amor Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados, told AZERTAC correspondent as she attended the event titled “Dialogue on Ensuring Global Action for Climate Funding” in Washington.

‘Significant progress has been made in recent years, including the establishment of ‘The Loss and Damage Fund’. However, funding remains a major concern. We require funding not only for addressing losses but also for prevention measures. Therefore, financing for adaptation and mitigation is crucial. We understand that it entails a considerable amount of resources. While many efforts have been initiated, the work will continue this year as well. We highly appreciate the establishment of the COP Presidencies Troika,” emphasized the Prime Minister of Barbados.

The COP Presidencies Troika, a first-of-its-kind initiative, was agreed upon in the UAE and will collaborate closely to enhance climate ambition between CO
P28, COP29, and COP30.

Mia Mottley is the initiator of the Bridgetown Agenda, which aims to unlock climate finance for the most vulnerable countries.
