Сonference entitled “Enhancing the efficiency of power supply of railway transport and the system of traction power supply of electric locomotives” held

Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) organized a conference on “Enhancing the efficiency of power supply in railway transport and the system of traction power supply for electric locomotives”. The conference was attended by representatives of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, Schneider Electric and ALSTOM companies.

AzTU Rector, Vilayat Valiyev, noted that the university is conducting research to improve the current state of electricity use on railways, as well as the efficiency of the transition from direct current to alternating current. Rector mentioned that AzTU conducts training in the field of railways in several specialties and special attention is paid to training personnel in this direction. According to the proposals related to this area, a change in specialization is planned for the master’s degree level in the near future. He pointed out that the Faculty of Transport and Logistics of the University carries out serious work in the field of logistics systems. The main goal is to achieve the organization of high-quality training in accordance with the requirements of modernity.

Speaking at the event, Adviser to the Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, Fuzuli Guliyev, spoke about the technical and economic advantages of switching from direct current to alternating current. He noted that the transition to the new system will increase the speed of passenger trains to 140 km / h.

Director of ALSTOM Transport Azerbaijan LLC, Elshan Zeynalov, recalled the cooperation agreement signed with AzTU in April this year. He noted that in accordance with the agreement, the universities provide for the implementation of a number of projects. Elshan Zeynalov also expressed his opinion on ensuring safety during the transportation of goods by rail.  Dan Vlaskeanu, General Manager of Schneider Electric for the Central Asian Region, spoke about the importance of introducing green technologies in the field of railway development. He said that thanks to this technology, the railway infrastructure will become more sustainable.

Then AzTU Vice-rector, Nurali Yusifbeyli, made a report on “Current trends in the energy sector of Azerbaijan and the challenges of the post-oil period”, and Sales Engineer of Schneider Electric, Elbek Rustamzade,  made a report on ”Digital solutions and automation systems in railway management”.

The conference continued with the discussion of topics.
