176 countries register for participating in Baku World Chess Olympiad

181 male and 142 female teams from 176 countries will compete in 42nd World Chess Olympiad to be held in Baku. The competitions will end on September 13. Three male and female teams of Azerbaijan will compete in the Olympiad.

The news conference on the Olympiad was organized on August 31. Youth and Sports Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Azad Rahimov, President of Azerbaijan Chess Federation Elman Rustamov, Director of the Operating Committee of the Chess Olympiad Mahir Mammadov, the Azerbaijani Chess Federation’s vice-president and head of the Olympic Games Judge Faig Hasanov delivered speeches at the conference. The Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Chess Olympiad in Baku, Deputy Prime Minister Yagub Eyyubov also participated at the event.

Azad Rahimov praised the activity of the Organizing Committee in the process of preparation for the Olympic Games. The Minister hailed victories of both male and female teams of Azerbaijan.

As was stated, about 500 volunteers were involved for the organizing works. The opening ceremony of the 42nd World Chess Olympiad will be held at the National Gymnastics Arena on 1 September. It will start at 19:00. The competitions will start at 15:00 on September 2.
