Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov had a telephone conversation with Karen Donfried, US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs.

The sides exchanged views on the regional security situation.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov spoke about the latest situation in the region, including the steps taken by Azerbaijan to implement the trilateral statements. The Minister informed the opposite side that the Armenian side continues provocations on the border between the two countries and that one of our servicemen was killed in the direction of Kalbajar, and stressed that the responsibility for this provocation lies directly with the Armenian military-political leadership.

During the telephone conversation, the sides also discussed other issues of mutual interest.

“Euronews” broadcasts reportage about Azerbaijani national dances

Allahshukur Pashazade to meet Pope Francis in Vatican

On January 12, a delegation led by the Chairman of the Caucasian Muslims Office, Sheikh-Ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, will leave for Vatican.

According to the Press Service of the Caucasian Muslims Office, that the delegation includes representatives of religious confessions operating in Azerbaijan.

The visit will take place on the official invitation of the head of the Roman-Catholic Church, Pope Francis.

As part of the visit, the Azerbaijani delegation will hold meetings with Pope Francis and several high-ranking officials of the Holy See.

Defense Ministry: Azerbaijani Army’s serviceman martyred

On January 11 at noon, the Azerbaijani Army’s long-term active military serviceman, soldier Ayaz Azar Nazarov was martyred as a result of provocation committed by the Armenian armed forces in the direction of Kalbajar district of the Azerbaijani-Armenian state border, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defense has reported.

The leadership of the Ministry of Defense expressed its deepest condolences to the family and relatives of the martyr, and wishes them patience.

“As a result of relevant measures taken by the Azerbaijani Army units, the opposing side was suppressed.

The Armenian military-political leadership bears full responsibility for the tension,” the Ministry said.

Polad Aslanov’s wife held a protest in front of the State Security Service

The wife of the convicted editor Polad Aslanov, Gulmira Aslanova, held a single protest rally in front of the building of the State Security Service (SSS) of Azerbaijan on January 11.

She told reporters that she was holding a rally in support of her husband, who had started a hunger strike, demanding a review of his case.

“Until now, I was against his hunger strike, because it harms health. But now I am in solidarity with h im and will fight to the end for his rights.

My husband said: “I’d rather die than live with the stigma of ‘traitor.’ Every day I will come here or to the General Prosecutor’s Office and hold a protest action,” said G. Aslanova. Later she was invited to the State Security Service building. Leaving the building, she said that she was received by the deputy head of the investigation department.

“At first he did not agree with my statement about the violation of Polad’s rights, but then he agreed to receive me and my lawyer Elchin Sadigov. Tomorrow we will go to him together,” said G. Aslanova. In her opinion, the case can be reviewed by the Supreme Court. Today G. Aslanova handed over cigarettes and bottled water for her husband to colony number 1.

“At first they didn’t want to take the transmission from me, but then they did. Today I have no information about Polad’s hunger strike, but if he had stopped it, I would have been informed right away,” G.Aslanova said.

According to her, today she also received a call from the Baku office of the Red Cross and said that they learned about the hunger strike from the media and asked about Polad’s condition.

Turkish, US presidential aides discuss ties, global, regional matters over phone

Turkiye’s presidential spokesperson Ibrahim Kalin and US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan exchanged views on bilateral relations as well as global and regional issues in a phone call on Monday, according to a statement by the Turkish Presidency, Anadolu Agency reports.

The two officials spoke about political and economic relations, as well as ways to develop cooperation in the field of defense, the statement said.

They also discussed the Ukrainian crisis, ongoing protests in Kazakhstan, normalization process between Turkiye and Armenia, as well as recent developments in Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Ethiopia, it added.

Kalin and Sullivan also discussed the details of a joint strategic mechanism agreed during a meeting on Oct. 31 last year between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his US counterpart Joe Biden on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rome.

During the phone talk, Kalin said the Ukraine crisis should be resolved through dialogue and cooperation, adding that Turkiye is ready to make any contribution in this respect.

He also underlined the importance that Turkiye attaches to Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

The two sides stressed the significance of efforts in putting an end to the ongoing unrest in Kazakhstan as soon as possible to ensure peace and stability in the region.

They also emphasized that the establishment of permanent peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia would contribute to regional stability and prosperity.

Kalin noted that Turkiye is determined to continue its role in ensuring peace and stability in the Balkans, Caucasus, Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa.
