ACWA Power Joins SOCAR and Masdar in Green Energy Export Initiative


BAKU—ACWA Power has announced its readiness to engage in a collaborative project with SOCAR and Masdar, aimed at exporting ‘green’ energy from the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic through Turkey to the European Union. This announcement was made during the 12th Caspian Energy Forum in Baku, highlighting the company’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy footprint.



According to Trend News Agency, Polina Lyubomirova, Business Development Director at ACWA Power Azerbaijan, detailed the project’s scope, which includes the potential export of 1 gigawatt (GW) of ‘green’ electricity to the EU. Lyubomirova also discussed ongoing developments in renewable energy projects within Azerbaijan, including the construction of wind farms in Khizi and the Absheron Peninsula. These projects, with a combined capacity of 240 megawatts (MW), are slated for completion and operation by 2025.



“Projects in Azerbaijan are among the priorities of global ACWA Power. In addition to the creation of renewable energy sources and export of energy from renewable energy sources, we are studying issues on the development of hydrogen strategy in Azerbaijan, creation of energy storage facilities, and water desalination,” Lyubomirova stated, underscoring the comprehensive approach ACWA Power is taking towards its investments in the region.



Lyubomirova expressed optimism about Azerbaijan’s economic diversification and the implementation of technological innovations within the country. “We believe in the success of our projects in this country,” she added, reflecting a strong commitment to supporting Azerbaijan’s transition towards renewable energy and sustainable development.
