Armenian and Iranian leaders discuss Karabakh

President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan had a phone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani on the initiative of the Iranian side.

The presidents discussed situation in Karabakh conflict zone, Armenian president’s office said in a statement. President Sargsyan briefed his Iranian counterpart on military aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan and an adequate response of the Karabakh Defense Army.

President Sargsyan especially focused on violence against civilian population comparing them to the behavior of some terrorist groups in the region.

President of the Islamic Republic stressed that amid presence of the terrorist groups and other challenges, the current outbreak of new hotbeds of tension in the region does not meet interests of any party. He emphasized the need to exert all necessary efforts to restore peace talks. President Rouhani said there is no military solution to the Karabakh conflict.

The Armenian and Iranian leaders discussed issues of bilateral agenda and agreed that it is necessary to continuously deepen friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
