Armenian border guards killed Azerbaijani driver because of his nationality: Azerbaijan cannot rely on Yerevan to control the Zangazur corridor -ANALYSIS

On July 12, the truck driver, an Azerbaijani-origin, an Iranian citizen, Amid Guluzade was killed by Armenian border guards on the Iran-Armenia border, Telegram channels circulated this information, APA reports.

The incident happened on the national ground.

Thus, at the “Nurduz” border crossing point of the Iran-Armenia border, Armenian border guards allowed only drivers of Armenian-origin to pass through the point. This resulted in dissatisfaction of Azerbaijani drivers waiting in line in the area.

The dispute turned into a hand-to-hand fight, during which Armenian border guards seriously injured Amid Guluzade.

An ambulance was called to the incident scene, however the doctors arrived a few hours later.

Because of this, the Azerbaijani driver died.

So far, no official statement has been made about the incident.

The incident once again shows how right Azerbaijan is in not trusting the Armenian side in the Zangazur Corridor issue. With the latest incident, the Armenian side once again revealed how unre
liable it is. The driver, an Iranian citizen, was killed by Armenian border guards precisely because of his nationality – Azerbaijani.

The latest incident brings to light a fact that security rules and mechanism provided by a third party should be applied in the Zangazur corridor.

During the application of this mechanism, the party that will deal with ensuring security must determine the measures that both countries should take to prevent similar incidents from happening again, and ensure their implementation and complete and comprehensive monitoring of the situation at the border.

Otherwise, it is not excluded that the Armenian side, which lost in the long-term conflict, will apply its ideas of revanchism in the context of violation of border security, which is considered the most sensitive issue for any state.

The border is the main security gate of any country, the number one element of stability in that country. Any level of damage to this element will affect both the country itself and neighboring co
untries. It is for this reason that the entrusting the stability of the region to a third party to ensure security along the Zangazur corridor becomes relevant.

It is not an exception that the Armenian side will take a series of steps to prevent the realization of this factor. A strong argument against these steps should be taken by putting the issue of regional security at the fore.

If this happens, any threats that the official Yerevan intends to make in the future will be prevented, and all malicious intentions will be suffocated in the cradle, as it is said.
