Azerbaijan able to host mega-events, says Israeli envoy

Azerbaijan belongs to the selected list of the countries that are able to host the F1 Grand Prix and handle such a challenge, Israeli ambassador to Baku, Dan Stav, told Trend June 14.
He said not many cities are hosting the F1 Grand Prix, adding there are certainly immediate benefits from such events, because many tourists are coming to Azerbaijan, especially to Baku.
“Once these tourists come to Baku, they spend money for tourism services, restaurants,” added Stav. “Obviously, when the spectators go back to their countries, they might tell their friends about what they have seen here.”
Another benefit is to show that the country can host such an event, face the challenge, and be able to organize very complex events that need lots of logistics, according to the Israeli ambassador.
Holding the F1 in Baku is supposed to directly or indirectly give a boost to the Azerbaijani economy through strengthening the tourism, added Stav.
“Baku is a gate to Azerbaijan and the tourists will enjoy the hospitality of the capital and would like to come back,” he said.
In the coming five years the F1 will enhance the status of Baku, Stav said, adding that Azerbaijan is in the same list with such countries as Malaysia, Canada, Belgium, Hungary, which host the F1.
The 2016 Formula 1 Grand Prix of Europe will be held June 17-19 in Baku. Eleven teams will take part in the racing: Mercedes AMG Petronas, Scuderia Ferrari, Williams Martini Racing, Red Bull Racing, Sahara Force India, Haas F1 Team, McLaren Honda, Toro Rosso, Sauber F1 Team, Renault Sport F1 and Manor Racing.
