Baku: Azerbaijan has successfully completed the first phase of constructing a nearly 200-meter tunnel in the Baku metro. This tunnel will connect the 'Jafar Jabbarli-Nizami' section, a primary objective of the line separation project. Mammad Rzayev, head of the Construction Projects Management Department of Baku Metro CJSC, shared these developments with journalists, according to APA-Economics.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the construction involved excavation at two locations around the '28 May' station. These locations include a car parking area at the intersection of Suleyman Rahimov and Mirali Gashqay streets and two preparatory shafts near the 'Jafar Jabbarli' station. The shafts facilitate construction work and the lowering of equipment and materials to the site. The completion of two approach sections from the 'Jafar Jabbarli' station track to the main tunnel area marks a significant milestone.
The construction employs the New Austrian method, suitable for the area's complex geological conditions, ensuring technical safety. The ongoing construction does not disrupt the operations of buses, the railway station, or the '28 May' and 'Jafar Jabbarli' stations. Safe pedestrian access is maintained in all directions.
Until the tunnel's completion, train operations will continue along the 'Icherisheher-Ahmadli' line, the 'Darnagul-Nizami' line, and the 'Jafar Jabbarli-Khatai' line. In the next construction phase, surface transport will facilitate passenger movement between the '28 May' and 'Nizami' stations.
Rzayev mentioned that the tunnel construction is expected to conclude within 11 months after the first phase of the 'Darnagul' electric depot is completed. Once the relevant equipment, devices, and systems are installed, the Red line ('Icherisheher-Hazi Aslanov') and the Green line ('Darnagul-Khatai') will operate independently. Passengers will transfer between the Green and Red lines via the '28 May-Jafar Jabbarli' connection.
