Azerbaijan is seeking to bring Armenia to justice for war crimes

Through international judicial instances, official Baku will seek to bring Armenia to justice for war crimes against Azerbaijan and compensation for the damage caused. This was stated by President Ilham Aliyev in his video speech at the session of the UN General Assembly.

All the facts of Armenia’s war crimes have been documented and Azerbaijan will take serious legal actions to bring war criminals to justice.

The President noted that the work of legal organizations on assessing the damage caused to Azerbaijan during the years of occupation is nearing its completion.

“Armenia must answer for crimes committed: the looting of our property, the destruction of historical monuments, the property of our citizens, for deforestation, pollution of our rivers and lakes, illegal use of our minerals in the occupied territories,” the President said.

Also, Aliyev added that legal procedures had already been prepared for those foreign companies that illegally extracted minerals in the occupied territories. “We are using all possible tools to bring criminals to justice,” he said.

“As for the Armenian war criminals, it is well known that the International War Crimes Tribunal is a rather politicized institution based on double standards, on a selective approach, and the events of recent years have repeatedly proved this.

Taking into account the lobbying potential of Armenia which is practised in the West, and the special relations of this country with many Western countries, it is difficult to expect that we will be able to attain our goal, I’d say this quite sincerely. And even if it succeeds, there is no guarantee that there will be an unbiased court, and that it won’t turn into another tool for defaming Azerbaijan, ” the head of the state emphasized.
