Azerbaijan Nominates Ali Ahmadov as Vice Speaker Following Parliamentary Election


BAKU—Ali Ahmadov has been selected as the nominee for the Vice Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament, following the recent snap parliamentary election that introduced significant changes in the country’s legislative body.



According to Trend News Agency, the nomination of Ali Ahmadov was confirmed during a parliament meeting held today. The snap parliamentary election, which took place on September 1, saw a wide range of candidates and substantial observer participation. A total of 112,749 local observers were registered, with more than 65,000 representing various political parties. Additionally, 598 international observers from 51 organizations across 69 countries monitored the election.



The election featured 990 registered candidates, of which 305 were representatives from 25 different political parties. Interestingly, 371 candidates, although affiliated with political parties, were not officially nominated by those parties. In total, the election had 676 candidates who had political party affiliations, highlighting the diverse political representation in the race.



The Constitutional Court of Azerbaijan validated the election results on September 21, paving the way for the new parliamentary structure and subsequent nominations such as that of Ali Ahmadov for Vice Speaker.
