Azerbaijan Offers Karabakh’s Armenian Residents the Chance to Return Home, Russian Official Confirms

BAKU: Azerbaijan has extended an offer to the Armenian residents of Karabakh, allowing them to return to their homes, as confirmed by a Russian Foreign Ministry official during a press interaction.

According to Trend News Agency, Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, addressed the issue in response to a question from an Armenian journalist regarding the restoration efforts in Khankendi by Azerbaijan. Zakharova highlighted that the region in question is under Azerbaijani jurisdiction, where Azerbaijani laws apply.

“We have repeatedly commented and emphasized the constructive steps that were aimed at providing an opportunity for the population that left their native places to return there. We raise this issue during bilateral contacts with our Azerbaijani colleagues and receive appropriate explanations, clarifications… I want to emphasize once again that the opportunity for return was provided,” Zakharova stated.

This development comes in the context of ongoing efforts to stab
ilize the region following years of conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the disputed territory. The provision for the return of displaced residents is seen as a significant step towards reconciliation and rebuilding the war-torn area.
