Azerbaijan, Portugal eye bilateral cooperation

Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met Sunday with Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Portugal, Francisco André on the sidelines of the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) to discuss current state of and outlook for relations between the two countries.

The pair found the need for exploring opportunities for cooperation between Azerbaijan and Portugal in trade, energy sector including renewable energy. They underlined Azerbaijan’s role in ensuring energy security in Europe.

The two pointed out that both countries cooperate both on a bilateral basis and within international roganizations.

Minister Bayramov briefed Andre about the current post-conflict situation in the region, Azerbaijan’s peace-building steps, mine threats and rebuilding projects in the occupied lands. The Minister pointed out that the liberates lands had been announced as green energy zone. He also touched upon cooperation on alternative energy with the European Union.

According to Bayramov, Armenia continues its provocations despite Azerbaijan’s peace-building efforts.

Andre said Portugal is keen on expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan in all fields.
