Azerbaijan Targets Major Green Energy Exports by 2030

BAKU—Azerbaijan plans to export over 70 percent of its green energy capacity starting in 2030, aiming to become a significant player in the European renewable energy market.

According to Trend News Agency, Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov made the announcement during his speech at the ‘Period of energy transition’ panel session at the Wind Energy Hamburg conference. The Minister detailed the progress of the ‘Caspian-Black Sea-Europe’ green energy corridor, which is set to initially supply 4 GW of green energy to Europe. Additionally, the ‘Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Europe’ corridor will export 1 GW of renewable energy from Nakhchivan and also looks to facilitate electricity transmission from the Caspian Sea and Central Asia to Türkiye and Europe.

Furthermore, Minister Shahbazov disclosed upcoming diplomatic moves, including the imminent signing of the ‘Intergovernmental Agreement on Strategic Partnership in the field of development and transmission of green energy’ between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. Discussions are also underway to extend the ‘Caspian-Black Sea-Europe’ green energy corridor to connect with Central Asia, enhancing the regional energy network and supporting the broader energy transition goals.
