Azerbaijan to Host COP29, Strengthening Global Climate Cooperation


Kazan: Azerbaijan is set to host COP29, the largest international climate conference, next month, a decision supported unanimously by nearly 200 countries. This reflects the global community’s respect for Azerbaijan’s climate policies, President Ilham Aliyev announced during the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev emphasized Azerbaijan’s role in fostering cooperation between the Global South and Global North on climate issues. Addressing the first plenary session of the summit in the Outreach/BRICS+ format, he stated, “We will strive to achieve mutual understanding on climate change, global security, the rule of international law, non-interference in each other’s affairs, and mutual respect.”

The upcoming COP29 conference in Baku is expected to serve as a platform for advancing dialogue and collaboration on pressing climate challenges. The BRICS Summit, with its focus on enhancing international cooperation, provided a fitting venue for President Aliyev’s announ

BRICS Summit in Kazan Highlights Azerbaijan’s Role in Global Logistics



Kazan: The first plenary session of the 16th BRICS Summit in the Outreach/BRICS+ format took place in Kazan, with significant participation from Azerbaijan, as President Ilham Aliyev attended and delivered a speech emphasizing Azerbaijan’s strategic role in international logistics and multilateral initiatives.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the session featured President Aliyev highlighting Azerbaijan’s contributions to international relations, drawing from its recent experience chairing the Non-Aligned Movement. He underscored Azerbaijan’s position as a pivotal transportation hub, facilitated by its geographical location and advanced infrastructure, which supports critical transport corridors such as the East-West and North-South routes.

During his address, President Aliyev also announced Azerbaijan’s hosting of the upcoming COP29 climate conference, pointing to the nation’s commitment to fostering cooperation between the Global South and North on pressing issues like climate change and global secur
ity. His remarks received acknowledgment from Russian President Vladimir Putin, who commended Azerbaijan’s logistical contributions and underscored the significance of Azerbaijan’s growing trade with Russia and other BRICS countries.

The BRICS Summit, established in 2006, now includes ten member states and this year’s event saw participation from delegations of 36 countries and six international organizations. The session was marked by attendance from 22 heads of state and UN Secretary-General António Guterres, further emphasizing the global significance of the summit and Azerbaijan’s role within it.
