Azerbaijani Chess Teams Draw Against Greece and Switzerland at FIDE Olympiad


BUDAPEST— The 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad continues in Budapest, with the Azerbaijani men’s and women’s chess teams completing the ninth round against Greece and Switzerland respectively, with mixed results.



According to Trend News Agency, the Azerbaijani men’s team, after drawing with Italy in a previous match, ended their game against Greece with a score of 2-2. The matchups saw Aydin Suleymanli and Rauf Mammadov facing off against Nikolas Theodorou and Stamatis Kourkoulos-Arditis, with Mammadov securing a win for his team. The games between Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Mohammad Muradli, and their Greek counterparts ended in draws. The women’s team, on the other hand, achieved a decisive victory against Switzerland, winning 4-0, with standout performances by Gunay Mammadzada, Ulviyya Fataliyeva, Govhar Beydullayeva, and Khanim Balajayeva.



The tournament standings after the eighth round place both Azerbaijani teams 20th with 11 points each, while the leading teams in the men’s and women’s categories are India, Uzbekistan, Hungary, and Kazakhstan.
