Azerbaijani Diplomacy Thwarts Screening of Controversial Film at Moroccan Festival

AGADIR—A potential diplomatic conflict was averted at the Festival Issni N’ourgh International du Film Amazigh in Morocco, where a film perceived as controversial was pulled from the schedule following interventions by the Azerbaijani Embassy.

According to Trend News Agency, the film “All I Need,” created by Katia Spivakova Saakiants, was originally scheduled for screening on September 13 during the festival, which runs from September 11 to September 15, 2024. The film’s plot, which references the disputed territories occupied by Armenia and labels the region of Karabakh as “Artsakh,” a term used by Armenians, sparked concerns. It also touched on the sensitive topic of the ‘Armenian genocide.’

The Azerbaijani Embassy in Morocco worked closely with Moroccan authorities and festival organizers to halt the screening of “All I Need.” The embassy’s efforts were aimed at preventing what it viewed as Armenian propaganda from misleading the audience at the international gathering.

This diplomatic maneuver underscores the ongoing sensitivities and complexities surrounding the portrayal of historical and territorial disputes in international forums, especially in cultural events like film festivals.
