Azerbaijani MFA responds to Mirzoyan: Azerbaijan expects Armenia to agree to the next negotiations

“Taking into account that Azerbaijan is the initiator of the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, including the signing of the peace agreement, it is surprising that the Armenian side made such statements,” said the Head of the Press Service Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Aykhan Hajizada while commenting on the statement of the Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, APA reports.

“We would like to remind the other side once again that the negotiations on the peace agreement are not usually conducted in the way presented by Armenia.

It is clear that the text of the peace agreement was submitted by the Azerbaijan side for discussions in Geneva on October 2 last year, and the discussions on the document were continued in Washington. Despite the agreement to hold the third meeting in Moscow on December 23, 2022, as a continuation of the negotiation process, the Armenian side did not participate in the meeting on a unilateral basis, unfortunately, violated the negotiation process.

We announce once again that Azerbaijan is ready to sign a peace agreement based on the 5 basic principles of the peace process and to hold the next meeting on negotiations as the initiator of the text of the mentioned agreement in a short period of time.

The Azerbaijani side expects Armenia to agree to hold the next meeting in order to negotiate on the text of the peace agreement, not provocative statements that harm the peace process,” said the MFA official.

Note that answering questions in the Armenian Parliament on January 18, 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan said that Armenia has been waiting for a response from Azerbaijan regarding the proposals for a peace agreement for 1 month, and the Azerbaijani side has stopped the negotiations.
