Azerbaijani Supreme Court Chairman Emphasizes Legal Framework in Climate Change Battle

BAKU — During the Law and Climate International Conference held in Baku, Chairman of the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan, Inam Karimov, outlined the evolving role of the legal system in addressing global climate change challenges.

According to Trend News Agency, Karimov discussed the increasing significance of the legal system in mitigating climate change impacts, touching on the broad implications for the economy, ecology, and human rights. He highlighted how legal frameworks like the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement compel nations and businesses to adopt sustainable practices and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Further, Karimov stressed the integral role of the judiciary and legal professionals in enforcing environmental laws and developing new norms to curb climate-related damages. He also noted Azerbaijan’s proactive stance in global climate initiatives, including hosting the forthcoming COP29 conference, signaling its commitment to international efforts against climate change.
