Baku Hosts International Digital Government Conference Focused on Environmental Impact

BAKU — An international conference on the environmental benefits of digital government, titled “Paperless Government: The Impact of Digitalization and Innovation on the Environment,” was recently held in Baku, organized by the Innovation and Digital Development Agency (IDDA) and the UN Representative Office in Azerbaijan.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the event is part of the “29 Climate Conversations: Road to COP29” initiative, aiming to integrate digital transformation with environmental sustainability. The conference featured key speakers including Samir Mammadov, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport; Inara Valiyeva, Chairperson of the IDDA; and Vladanka Andreeva, UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan.

During the conference, Vincenzo Aquaro, Director of the Digital Government Division at the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), delivered a comprehensive presentation on “Digitalization Methodology and Climate Change.” This was followed by panel sessions discussing the environmental impacts of digital government products and governance in the digital age, with a focus on technological development and citizen engagement.

The main goal of the event was to foster collaboration and dialogue among various sectors to address the global climate crisis effectively. Participants exchanged knowledge and experiences on successful practices and strategies from around the world, examining the intersection of digital transformation and environmental sustainability. This collaboration aims to develop and implement digital strategies that support both ecological preservation and social well-being.
