Croatia Grand Chess Tour: Shahriyar Mammadyarov defeated Harry Kasparov

The blitz tournament of the third stage of the Grand Chess Tour series, the Croatia Grand Chess Tour, kicked off in Zagreb, Croatia.

AZERTAG reports that the first day of the two-day tournament, Shahriyar Mammadyarov will compete in 9 rounds.

So, although our chess player lost at the start to Maxime Vashie-Lagrave from France, in the next match he defeated Jan Nepomnyashi from Russia and Jorden Van Forest from the Netherlands. In the following matches, our chess player lost to another Russian chess player Alexander Grishuk and Polish Jan-Krzysztof Duda, and in the 6th round he defeated the former world champion, Harry Kasparov, representing Russia. Mammadyarov lost to Ukrainian Anton Korobov in the 7th round. Our chess player continues to face another former world champion, Viswanathan Anand from India. Mammadyarov will play his last match today against Dutch Anish Giri.

It should be noted that a rapid race was held within the tournament before. According to the final results, Shahriyar Mammadyarov took the 6th place with 9 points.

It should be noted that Shahriyar Mammadyarov won the first race of the series – Superbet Chess Classic Romania.
