Deputy Foreign Minister: Iran is responsible as a state for terrorist incident and its grave consequences

“As you may know an armed attack – a terror act – was committed January 27 at 08:40 on the embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Islamic Republic of Iran. As a result of this terror act, one employee was killed and two others sustained multiple gunshot wounds. This attack was unexpected for us. Occurrence of such incidents is unacceptable,” deputy foreign minister of Azerbaijan Khalaf Khalafov told journalists today.

The deputy minister said that every country is responsible for protection of diplomatic missions on its territory under the Vienna Convention.

According to him, Iran bears responsibility as a state for the terrorist incident and its grave consequences.

“Our President evaluated this attack as a terrorist act and strongly condemned it. Shortly after the attack, we summoned the Iran’s ambassador to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We mostly demand that Iran as a state must ensure thorough and transparent investigation of the terrorist act and bring perpetrators to trial in accordance with its international obligations,” Khalafov underlined.
