Erdogan: Turkey-Russia relations move to positive direction
Relations between Turkey and Russia have moved to a positive direction, said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
He made the remarks Aug. 9 at a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg, TRT Haber news channel reports.
Erdogan said the Turkey-Russia relations have strategic character.
“Cooperation between Turkey and Russia will make an important contribution to the development of the region,” noted Erdogan.
Ankara praises Russia’s support during the attempted military coup in Turkey, he added.
Turkish president arrived in Russia today.
This is Erdogan’s first visit to Russia after the crisis in the two countries’ relations and also after the attempted military coup in Turkey.
Turkish delegation includes Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Berat Albayrak, Minister of Culture and Tourism Nabi Avci, Minister of Transport, Shipping and Communications Ahmet Arslan and Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Simsek.
