President of the European Council Charles Michel, who arrived in our country on a working visit, visited the Main Ground Satellite Control Center of the Space Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Azercosmos) under the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies on July 18.

AZERTAG reports that Charles Michel, the transport, communications and high-tech Minister Rashad Nabiyev said. Minister Rashad Nabiyev said Azerbaijan’s cooperation with the European Union was of special importance for our country. The Minister stressed the great potential for further development of relations in various fields, including transport, communications and high technologies.

Speaking about the development of the space sector in Azerbaijan, Rashad Nabiyev said that the launch of the Azerspace-1 and Azerspace-2 telecommunications satellites into orbit by the French company Arianespace is a clear example of our country’s commitment to cooperation with European partners. He added that the Azersky Earth observation satellite was purchased in 2014 from Airbus Defense and Space.

Rashad Nabiyev praised the efforts of the European Space Agency to expand relations between Azercosmos and the European Geostationary Navigation Service (EGNOS).

It was noted that the International Astronautics Congress will be held in Baku in 2023. Informing about this international event, Rashad Nabiyev invited the President of the European Council Charles Michel to take part in the congress.

During the meeting, a presentation was made on the creation and development of the space sector in our country, the activities of Azercosmos. It was noted that Azercosmos’s mission is to provide satellite solutions based on advanced technologies for peace and prosperity in the world, and to work on new services and solutions to support local and global initiatives.

The Minister said that work is underway to place antennas belonging to the European Geostationary Navigation Service in the Main Ground Satellite Control Center of Azercosmos.

At the end, the President of the Council of the European Union Charles Michel got acquainted with the teleportation station with antennas belonging to the European Geostationary Navigation Service.
