FM: Dialogue between Azerbaijani and Armenian communities may contribute to settlement of conflict (Azeri-Press News Agency)

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister received EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Helbert Salber on April 29, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told APA.

The sides discussed the course of negotiations over the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, stressing that the status quo is unacceptable and inconstant.

Touching upon the issue of releasing Dilgam Asgarov and Shahbaz Guliyev who were taken hostage by Armenians, Minister Mammadyarov said the EU needs to raise this humanitarian matter before Armenia.

Herbert Salber in his turn said he will again raise the issue of releasing hostages before Armenia.

Mammadyarov said over 4000 people have gone missing as a result of the Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan, adding that Armenia must provide information about their fate relying on humanitarian principles. He also noted that the missing people have already been identified through DNA analysis.

Moreover, the FM said dialogue between the Azerbaijani and Armenian communities of Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh region is the main factor that may contribute to the settlement of the conflict.

The EU representative congratulated Azerbaijan on the occasion of the upcoming European Games, noting that this major sports event will serve peace, stability, flourishing and development.

The sides also exchanged views on issues of mutual interest.
