German Bundestag to discuss Armenian Genocide acknowledgement in June

During his visit to Poland, Armenian National Assembly (NA) Vice President Eduard Sharmazanov held private talks with German Bundestag Vice President Johannes Zinghammer. At the meeting, Sharmazanov briefed his German counterpart on the consequences of the military aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan in the beginning of April.

It was specifically stated that the Daesh handwriting can be observed in the Azerbaijani actions. Eduard Sharmazanov told Bundestag Vice President that Aliyev’s criminal administration has for years been continuously talking about solving the conflict by military means and acting accordingly, while the untargeted international calls, disregard of the apparent facts, i.e. impunity, led to the Azerbaijani military aggression in early April.

According to Sharmazanov, Armenia has always proved that it stands for the peaceful settlement of the issue, this being constantly turned down by the criminal authorities of Azerbaijan. He reiterated that the inalienable right of the Artsakh people to live in an independent, free and secure country was established during a republican referendum. The Armenian NA Vice President also noted that the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh must be included in the international agenda. However, the Azerbaijani government has an ally in its criminal actions: Turkey obviously provides its support to Aliyev’s crimes, which take place in the Armenian territories.

For his part, Johannes Zinghammer assured that Germany also stands for solving the conflicts through peaceful means, and as a Minsk Group member it will exert every effort to achieve peaceful solution of the Karabakh conflict.

He also added that in June Bundestag will discuss the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
