Germany beat Portugal 4-2 for their 1st EURO 2020 victory

Germany defeated Portugal 4-2 to seal their first victory at EURO 2020 on Saturday, Anadolu Agency reports.

From the Germany corner, Diogo Jota took the ball in the dangerous area and passed it to Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored from close range to conclude Portugal’s brilliant counter-attack in the 15th minute at the Allianz Arena, Munich.

But Germany took control and completed a comeback with two goals in four minutes from 35 to 39.

After getting the ball on the left from Joshua Kimmich’s drilled ball, Robin Gosens tried to find Kai Havertz with a volley across, Havertz could not touch, but Ruben Dias fired the ball into his own net.

Kimmich sent his low cross in the six-yard box and Raphael Guerreiro scored his second own goal with unlucky last touch, putting Germany 2-1 ahead.

In the second half, Gosens found Havertz with a low cross and Chelsea’s forward did not make a mistake to roll the ball into an empty net in the 51st minute. It was a great attacking play Germany.

Kimmich delivered a cross in the box for Gosens, who powered in a header to make the score 4-1 nine minutes after their third goal.

From Guerreiro’s free-kick, Ronaldo assisted for Jota in the 67th minute to keep Portugal’s hopes alive but their efforts were not enough and the match ended 4-2 in Group F.

France now top the group with four points, followed by Germany and Portugal with three points each.

Hungary sit at the bottom after collecting one point.
