Governor’s Speech at the Kijang Emas Scholarship Award Ceremony for Top Achievers in 2015 SPM Examination

This year, the Bank is pleased to announce the three recipients of the Kijang Emas Scholarship. They are Courtney Tang, Noor Adeebah Binti Mohamed Razif and Navineish Nair Rajan. I would like to congratulate them for their outstanding academic achievements and for their participation in co-curricular and sports activities. Let me also take this opportunity to recognise their parents and teachers. Their success is a culmination of your collective efforts, steadfast support and encouragement.

To date, 48 high potential talents have been awarded the Kijang Emas Scholarship. The recipients have graduated or are currently pursuing their studies in diverse fields of study including Medicine, Engineering, Law, Economics, Dietetics, Actuarial Science, Accounting, Dentistry, Biochemistry, Genetics, Architecture, Psychology and Geophysics in top universities around the world such as MIT, the University of Chicago, University of Pennsylvania and University of Cambridge. Thus far, 21 recipients of the Kijang Emas Scholarship have completed their undergraduate studies, of whom 12 have returned while nine are still pursuing further specialisation before returning to serve our country.

For the 2016 Kijang Emas Scholarship, we received a total of 146 applications from top SPM students scoring straight A+ for their 2015 SPM examination. From these applications, 22 students were shortlisted based on their SPM results and their involvement in co-curricular and sports activities. The students then underwent a rigorous evaluation process under the Bank’s “Kijang Academy” which assessed their technical and leadership competencies, as well as their values.

We are pleased to award three outstanding students the Kijang Emas Scholarship this year. Having just completed their SPM examination, they will be enrolled into their respective pre-university programmes. Adeebah aspires to be a Biomedical Engineer while both Courtney and Navineish aspire to be Doctors. I am confident that all three of you will do your best and will contribute to the future of our country.
