IEA Chief Warns of Aviation Fuel Shortages in Europe Amid Middle East Crisis

Trkiye: The crisis caused by the war in the Middle East has created significant gaps in Europe's energy supply chain and increased risks in the aviation fuel segment, Trkiye's Dnya newspaper reports, citing International Energy Agency (IEA) chief Fatih Birol.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Birol highlighted that Europe previously met 75% of its aviation fuel demand from the Middle East, but supply routes have now shifted to Nigeria and the United States. These changes in the supply chain are impacting the availability of aviation fuel across Europe.

Stating that supply problems are already affecting airline ticket prices, Fatih Birol noted that he plans to meet with Nigeria's oil minister to encourage increased exports. He warned that if supply is not sufficiently increased, a serious fuel shortage could emerge within 6-7 weeks in some regions, particularly in Europe.
