Information of the Press Service Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan about the Ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement held under the chairmanship of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov

On September 21, 2022, a Ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement was held on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly.

About 50 foreign ministers of the member states of the Non-Aligned Movement, as well as deputy ministers and permanent representatives to the UN participated in the meeting chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov.

Making a statement at the meeting dedicated to the global situation in the post-pandemic era and the tasks of the Non-Aligned Movement, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed the participants about the activities, initiatives and plans of Azerbaijan’s chairmanship to the NAM.

It was emphasized that the world is going through a period of great transformations, and in the context of pandemics, armed conflicts, climate change and many other challenges, the global security and development architecture is experiencing unprecedented difficulties.

The historical significance of the Summit of the Contact Group of the Non-Aligned Movement on the pandemic at the initiative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement established in Madrid, as well as the founding of a Youth Organization was brought to attention. It was noted that the logo and flag of the Movement’s Youth Organization were approved by the Shusha Accord.

The Minister informed the participants about the reconstruction works and peace building initiatives carried out in our territories liberated from occupation after the 44-day Patriotic War. It was noted that Azerbaijan proposed to Armenia to sign a peace agreement based on the norms and principles of international law. Despite all this, it was emphasized that another provocations committed against Azerbaijan by the Armenian armed forces on September 12 hindered peace and reconstruction efforts in the region. At the same time, it was noted that the threat of landmines creates serious difficulties, and the facts about Armenia’s continued placement of landmines in the territories were presented. It was emphasized that Azerbaijan is not interested in destabilization and will continue efforts to ensure peace.

Then, effective and joint responses to the current challenges were discussed, the Ministers made a speech and highlighted the positions of the countries, and the Political Declaration of the meeting was adopted.
