Iran can fully restore production from old oil wells with artificial lift pumps – official

BAKU: It is possible to resume production from the wells through the production of artificial lift pumps in Iran throughout the country and installing them on old wells, the production of which has been reduced, Iran’s Persia Oil and Gas Development Company Jaafar Hejazi said, Trend reports.

According to him, these pumps are considered fully modern equipment in the oil and gas industry. Taking this into consideration, Iranian Oil and Gas Development Company Persia, in cooperation with a Russian company, has put into operation a plant for the production of ESP-type well pumps in Ahvaz city, Khuzestan province, Iran.

The official did not disclose the name of the Russian company.

Hejazai noted that several pumps, which are currently produced at this plant, are installed in several wells in the resulting oil field. At the same time, the Persia Oil and Gas Industry Development Company, in cooperation with a local startup company, has acquired technical knowledge about this equipment.

He said the Persian Oil an
d Gas Development Company has invested $5.7 billion in developing the country’s oil and gas fields.

‘With the cooperation of the Russian company, investments worth $3.9 billion have been made in the Kupal oil field. With the completion of works in this field, it is planned to increase crude oil production from 55,000 barrels to 85,000 barrels per day,’ he said.

Furthermore, he emphasized that work on the development of the Yaran oil field continues. Last year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024), 4,800 bpd were added to the production of this field. It is expected that 10,000 bpd will be added to production by drilling new wells and installing downhole pumps.

To note, the Iranian oil field of Yaran is divided into the northern and southern parts of the country. This field is located 120 km west of Ahvaz city in Khuzestan province, located in the southwest of the country. The field has three reservoirs. It is noted that the field has a total of 1.6 billion barrels of crude oil.
