Iran Halts Indirect Talks with the U.S., Cites Regional Conditions

MUSCAT: Iran has halted its indirect negotiations with the United States, which were being facilitated by third-party nations, due to the ongoing turmoil in the Middle East, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced during a press briefing in Oman.

According to Trend News Agency, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the decision comes amid a backdrop of escalating regional tensions, which Tehran deems unfavorable for dialogue. Araghchi highlighted Oman’s role in positively managing the communication between Iran and the U.S., an endeavor that has been ongoing under both the current and previous Iranian administrations.

The indirect negotiations, which have taken place in nations including Qatar and Oman, have led to several agreements over the years. However, Araghchi emphasized that until the Middle East crisis is resolved, Iran does not find the conditions conducive to continue talks with the U.S. He did not dismiss the possibility of resuming negotiations in the future, noting, “In case th
e crisis is over, Iran will decide on the form in which to resume negotiations with the U.S.”
