Tokyo, June 28, AZERTAC

Initiated by Azerbaijan’s Embassy in Tokyo, the Japanese-language newspaper “Nikkei Keizai” has published an article dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.

The author, ambassador of Azerbaijan to Japan Gursel Ismayilzade highlights the history of the date May 28, when the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was established. The 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. The first democratic republic with a parliamentary form of government in the East and the Muslim world existed quite successfully for that time and made a lot for democratic reforms. In this regard, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed an order on the basis of which a number of events are carried out in the country and abroad during the year. The article stresses that formation of the independent Azerbaijan Democratic Republic is a special event for the history of Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani statehood revived for the first time in the most progressive form for that time – in the form of a democratic republic.

Among the important accomplishments of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was the extension of suffrage to women, making Azerbaijan one of the first countries in the world, and the very first majority-Muslim nation, to grant women equal political rights with men.

The article gives comprehensive information on the latest achievements of the modern Azerbaijan Republic and its independent policy.
