KazTransOil Transports Over 950,000 Tons of Oil to Baku in First Eight Months of 2024

ASTANA — KazTransOil, Kazakhstan’s national operator of the main oil pipeline, has successfully transported over 950,000 tons of oil toward Baku from January to August 2024, indicating steady progress in regional oil logistics.

According to Trend News Agency, a spokesperson from KazTransOil reported that from the beginning of the year through August, the company managed to move 954,000 tons of oil via the port of Aktau in the direction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline. The company achieved a significant monthly milestone in August 2024, shipping 117,000 tons from the same port.

The source added that KazTransOil is on track to reach its target of transporting up to 1.5 million tons of oil through the port of Aktau by the end of 2024, adhering strictly to the transportation schedule sanctioned by Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy. This schedule is meticulously planned based on the demands from oil shippers.

Reflecting on the previous year, the spokesperson highlighted that 3.376 million tons of oil were loaded into tankers at Aktau utilizing KazTransOil’s facilities in 2023, with 1.057 million tons directed toward the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan route. This follows a strategic push by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in 2022 to amplify the volume of oil transported through the Trans-Caspian corridor. In alignment with this directive, agreements between the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) and KazMunayGas, Kazakhstan’s oil and gas company, were signed to bolster annual transport capacity to 1.5 million tons from the Tengiz field specifically for the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline.

Further expanding this initiative, during President Tokayev’s visit to Azerbaijan in March 2022, KazMunayGas and SOCAR inked a deal to enhance the annual transport volume through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan route to 2.2 million tons, reinforcing the bilateral commitment to energy cooperation.
