Kyrgyzstan and Hungary Explore Green Investments Amid Strategic Talks


BISHKEK — Kyrgyzstan and Hungary are focusing on attracting Hungarian investments for green projects as part of their broader efforts to strengthen bilateral ties. The discussions took place during the fourth meeting of the Kyrgyz-Hungarian Strategic Council in Bishkek, covering cooperation across political, economic, and cultural areas.



According to Trend News Agency, Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Zheenbek Kulubayev and Hungarian Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Peter Szijjarto led the talks, which explored investment opportunities in agriculture, transportation, and sustainable development projects. Both ministers underscored the importance of high-level visits and deepening inter-parliamentary relations to foster further collaboration.



In addition to bilateral discussions, the meeting reviewed the role of the Kyrgyz-Hungarian Development Fund and the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation in facilitating joint projects. The ministers also deliberated on cooperation within international organizations, including the United Nations, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), and the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), exchanging perspectives on current global issues.



At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties signed a protocol to formalize their agreements. Data from the National Statistics Committee of Kyrgyzstan indicates that trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and Hungary from January to July 2024 was $7.7 million, reflecting a 7.4 percent decrease compared to the same period in 2023.
