Kyrgyzstan interested in implementation of Smart Customs projects with PRC

Another meeting of the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Trade Facilitation Committee was held. The Ministry of Economy and Commerce of Kyrgyzstan reported.

It is noted that at the initiative of China proposals were made to implement a WTO agreement on trade facilitation through the digital revolution and smart technology. Earlier, China announced its assistance in this process.

Nurbek Maksutov, head of Kyrgyzstan’s representative office for WTO issues, said that trade facilitation, simplification, modernization and harmonization of export and import procedures is a vital issue for the Kyrgyz Republic as a landlocked country with a small economy. Previously, this issue has been repeatedly discussed at the WTO platform.

Kyrgyzstan has high hopes for the viability of a free trade agreement. It provides mechanisms to facilitate and increase trade in the world, offering effective provisions to speed up the movement, release and clearance of goods, including in transit. The document also outlines measures for effective cooperation between customs and other relevant authorities on trade facilitation and customs compliance.

Therefore, Kyrgyzstan fully supported China’s proposal. The latter voiced timely suggestions on introducing smart technologies, such as achieving greater transparency through publication and accessibility of information, release of goods and customs clearance, cooperation among border agencies, freedom of transit, and customs partnerships.

Kyrgyzstan is interested in implementation together with China of Smart Customs, Smart Borders and Smart Connectivity (3S) project on use of high technologies at the checkpoints between the Kyrgyz Republic and PRC, which is implemented by the Chinese side based on the experience with Mongolia and other countries.
