Latvian President Raimonds Vejonis: Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict should be solved

“The Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict should be solved. We are interested in solving this conflict peacefully in a diplomatic way,” said President of Latvia Raimonds Vejonis, who attended the 5th Global Baku Forum.

“Latvia, on its side, always supported Azerbaijan. We reiterate in different formats how important it is to solve this dispute. There should be settlement of the conflicts to ensure the territorial integrity of the states. These are very important international principles that should be implemented anywhere.”

President Raimonds Vejonis also highlighted the significance of the 5th Global Baku Forum: “Former Latvian President Vaire Vike-Freiberga is one of the co-chairs of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center. Any format between different countries is very important. Such forums are very important not only for Latvia, but also for all countries participating in this forum, because it is one more possibility to discuss very challenging and important issues in society. This time we discuss international relations, peace and challenges. Now we are living in a very challenging time. It means we need to find ways how we can survive in different conditions. It doesn’t matter Europe, Asia or any other regions of the world.”

He also praised very good relationship between Azerbaijan and Latvia. President Raimonds Vejonis said: “I hope that we will find the ways how we can still improve our relations. We had a meeting with President Ilham Aliyev. We will discuss new possibilities in our relations. I also wait for President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Riga. The President will visit Latvia this year and we will continue our discussions.”
